Who am I?

You can find me teaching art to high school students by day and painting nights and weekends while juggling three kids. I love living in the quiet, rolling fields of Hereford, MD where I can see horse fences, hay bales, and happy tree lines on my every drive. If you’re in Hereford, keep your eyes out! I am always stopped on the side of the road to capture a beautiful moment.

Why do I make art?

I make art to dissolve the caked-on layers of assumption and boredom that obscure our visual perceptions. We walk around in a haze not seeing our own reflection in the surface of our coffee, the mist rising in the distance on our drive to work, or the sparkle of sun glinting off a pedestrian. I want to peel the haze from our eyes to show what’s around us, glistening and new. I try to refocus our attention so we can appreciate small visual pleasures every day.

How do I make art?

I help people to see the beauty in their lives by relying on four visual keys: color, light, texture, and contrast. Paying close attention to these elements as I reinterpret a familiar subject highlights a rich visual tapestry that is frequently overlooked. I can use oil paint to turn a broken eggshell on a paper towel into a seashell on a foaming beach. When I paint, my goal is to see color where others would see brown or black, shine where it is commonly dull, and light/shadow in a field of grey.
