We took a trip to the Great Smoky Mountains. Turns out there is a reason for the name! The clouds just site around the mountains like a veil. You can just see the top of a low hill peeking out in the back of this pastoral painting.
Fall has a certain unique sparkle. I painted this from a day when we took a hike on our favorite trail. Our family has named it “Panorama Beach Trail” because you have such a wide view of the sparkling Prettyboy Reservoir.
Sunlight makes colors so vivid. Notice the bright yellows on the sunlight side and the cool blues on the shadow side. Painting children is a beautiful thing.
Electric blue clouds and turquoise mountains serve as a backdrop for black shapes peacefully grazing in the tall grass. I love to look at the strokes of orange and turquoise that define the mountain range in the back.

See the backlighting coming through from inside the shell? I love how the translucent material of the shell creates this effect. Quick brushwork and bright color make a fresh, luminous impression.

What a heavy jug for such a sweet little girl! Set against vibrant greenery and traditional brick, this painting captures the innocence of what it was to be a toddler before technology.
The classic car and warm/cool tones of those painting make me nostalgic for simpler times. What a snow storm they must have had!

Driving out to pick strawberries in Carroll County there are rolling fields and low barns dotted along Mt. Carmel road. We play the game of who can count more horses. Can you see the dance of sun in the grass and trees? I tried to capture this with my lively color and brush mark.
